Kristin and R.J. Shirey volunteer on Saturdays at the Food Bank filling client orders. R.J. entered a Diocesan level poetry, essay and poster contest during Catholic schools week. The theme for his poem "My Calling" won third place with this poem. Congratulations R.J.

My Calling

The Lord speaks to me every day

Do you hear what I hear?

He calls on me in many ways

Do you hear what I hear?

Do not fear!

The Lord has called upon me

to help our brothers and sisters in need

Arriving at the food bank early Saturday mornings

to distribute food to those who are hungry

There is no room for greed

The look of despair on their faces

and sometimes tears in their eyes

makes my heart want to cry

Knowing some of them have walked over a mile

I greet my brother and sisters with a smile

and offer a seat to rest awhile

As I load their bags with food

I wonder what their hunger is like

My dear brothers and sisters in need

Thank me, shake my hand and sometimes hug me

I’ve answered my Lord’s calling

I know the Holy Spirit in me

for I feel the peace inside my heart

I realize that I am no different

than my brothers and sisters

I now know their hunger

for I hunger to be more Christ like

Thanks to everyone's generous support, both financially and with food items, we are meeting the increased demands coming from the current economic conditions. On behalf of our clients, we cannot thank you enough!! Our thanks to everyone for your support. Your ongoing support and donations are the mainstay of our program.

However, our need is ongoing and escalating due to high energy prices, housing costs, and health care expenses, plus the state food purchase program is currently on hold. Please check our Needs List for the most current list of items and keep those donations coming!!
